Featuring new work from Darlene Mitchell and Craig Whitten
When putting together a show, a theme is usually a great place to start . . .Sometimes . . . Maybe?
Not for Darlene and Craig. They felt trapped and uneasy about selecting a name for their show. Instead, they have decided to let the show develop on its own. At the time of this writing, neither Darlene nor Craig knows what they will finally create to exhibit. What they do know though, is that they will let their minds wander unencumbered (you could say mindlessly) and allow those thoughts to begin to develop into musings. Musings, they feel, are one step up from ramblings, being slightly more focused with the beginnings of intent and the development of an idea. Ideas that were spawned from the freedom of mindless thought.
Ultimately, these musings turn into inspiration.... The Holy Grail to an artist! That inspiration can (but isn’t always guaranteed) to lead to thoughtful and compelling works of art.
‘So, what will we see?’ you ask. Expect to see a body of work ranging from pure abstracts in watercolor, acrylic, and oils to representations of observations from the environment surrounding them. From barns to swallows, and maybe even a little storytelling thrown in.
One thing is for sure: you don’t want to miss this exhibition. Come see what happens when two artists simply let their ‘Mindless Musings’ become art.
Art has been a passion, endeavor, and desire of Darlene's for many years (and she hates to measure time in years). She strives to infuse her work with passion and emotion so her art, in whatever medium she uses, will invoke conversation between the artist, the art, and the viewer.
Craig has been pursuing fine art for over 10 years, 4 of it full time, and loving every minute of it. Craig is usually playing with minimalism inspired by an Asian aesthetic, but makes frequent forays into abstraction.
Darlene and Craig's studio is at The Bindery Studios, 511 Ferry Street, Lafayette, IN 47901
